?Berg/Seeger Classic 2012 – Welcome to the A...

The 5th Berg/Seeger Track & Field Classic is set to take place at the Arizona State Schools for the Deaf and the Blind in Tucson on 20-21 April 2012. This is a special event as this will occur during ASDB's 100th anniversary of ASDB's establishment. Please note that there will be prelims and a few field events going on Friday evening starting at 6PM. This classic is open to all Deaf HS athletes, including schools for the Deaf and mainstream schools in the United States. HS athletes means 9th, 10th, 11th, and 12th grades. Participation is not allowed for 6th, 7th, 8th graders, and fifth year senior. The purpose for this classic is to promote interest in track and field among Deaf and Hard-of-Hearing high school athletes. The Center for American Studies and Research sponsored a lecture entitled ""The History of US Constitutional Principles: Civil Law vs. Religious Imperatives"" by Dr. Donald Sharpes. Dr. Donald K. Sharpes is Professor in the Emeritus College at Arizona State University, and was a former director in the US Department of Education in Washington DC. He has taught at the universities of Maryland, Maine, Virginia, Virginia Tech, Utah State, Weber State and Arizona State. He was a Distinguished Visiting Professor at Qinghai Normal University from 1988-94, and was the first American inducted as a Fellow in the China Senior Professors Association. In 2008 he was awarded a Lifetime Achievement Award by the International Studies group of the American Educational Research Association. He has authored 18 books and over 240 articles in the social and behavioral sciences, humanities, and teacher education. He has been published in the US, England, Finland, Norway, Germany (in German), India, Malaysia, China (in Chinese), Hong Kong, and Denmark (in Danish), and has lived and worked in the Middle East.

Dr Jerald Dirks is our guest on today's show, Dr. Dirks received his Bachelor of Arts (philosophy) from Harvard College in 1971, his Master of Divinity from Harvard Divinity School in 1974, his Master of Arts (clinical child psychology) from the University of Denver in 1976, his Doctor of Psychology (Psy.D.) degree in clinical psychology from the University of Denver in 1978, and his sessions program certificate in Islamic studies from Imam Muhammad ibn Saud Islamic University in 1998. In 1969, he obtained his License to Preach from the United Methodist Church and was ordained into the Christian ministry (deaconate) by the United Methodist Church in 1972. His vocational history includes over five years teaching in American colleges and universities and over 20 years spent in the private practice of psychotherapy. In addition, he has taught at the middle school level at two different private Islamic schools and has served as the psychoeducational consultant at one private Islamic school. Dr. Dirks is the author or co-author of over 60 published articles in the behavioral sciences (primarily in psychosomatic medicine), over 140 published articles on the Arabian horse and its history, and over 220 published articles or formal presentations on Islam, comparative religion, and private Islamic education in America.
