This short documentary is about a school I started in Tucson, Arizona because my kids weren't being educated to my satisfaction. We took in students that were expelled from other schools due to behavior issues and some who had diagnoses such as ADHD, autism, Asperger's, bi-polar, etc. Even some who had been arrested before. Grade levels were Kindergarten through 10th grade. Using the simple strategies outlined in this video the children were able to be successful in learning, and all without medication. Simple things such as using positive reinforcement, treating the students with respect, allowing them extra physical activity, and easy access to the outdoors enabled them to thrive. Whether they aren't able to grasp the subject matter, or whether they grasp it too quickly and become bored, many students use misbehavior as a "smokescreen" rather than verbalize what's going on. When children are allowed to work at their own pace they can truly learn, and enjoy learning. These children can be challenging but with the right education they can become creative, engaging and productive members of society. As further proof that these strategies work my 2 sons are now wonderful, respectful, productive young men who work and maintain a high GPA in school. I have placed this video online so that other parents and educators might get some ideas on how to help children and I welcome comments which I will try to respond to.
