As a result of the project many students improved their standardized test scores and their confidence. Prior to the project many students had difficulty restating information from what they heard viewed or read.

Third, fourth and fifth graders donned West African story hats as they began their year-long adventure in lessons of cultural diversity, universal morality, mathematical activities and folk art. The students studied the art of storytelling and its oral tradition. Students created "story hats" that represented a West African tradition and even learned five regional stories from around the world. Special emphasis was comparing and contrasting how different cultures express universal morals. Students learned several mathematical games from different cultures. Studying folk art, students gained awareness of art techniques from all over the world.

Celebrate Arizona! is a unique and innovate way to teach fourth graders at Ward Traditional Academy about the several cultures and time periods of Arizonas history. Each year the students produce and perform a 35-minute musical incorporating social studies and the musical elements. Using their Arizona history text as a guide, the children learn about Native Americans, Spanish culture, pioneers and mining. While learning history and preparing for the musical, students helped create dances and learned some sign language that coincided with musical numbers, musical elements and instruments.

This afterschool club was designed to foster awareness and acceptance among students in both the general education program and the special education program. Through a variety of techniques, including group discussions, outdoor activities, center play and peer interactions, the club worked to maintain communication and social interaction between children with autism and typical functioning kindergarten children.
